Mucosolvan 30mg/5ml Syrup

Ambroxol is a mucolytic medicine. It makes mucus (phlegm) thinner and less sticky so it can be cleared from the airways more easily.

It is used for airway and chest conditions where there is too much mucus, in adults and children over 2 years.

Take it exactly as the leaflet, your doctor or pharmacist tells you.

• Take it after meals.
• Use the measuring syringe or spoon supplied for liquid forms.
• Drink plenty of fluids during the day.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due. Never take a double dose.
• See a doctor if you do not feel better, or feel worse, after 5 days (3 days for children under 6).

Common side effects include:

• changes in taste
• numbness in the mouth or throat
• feeling sick or diarrhoea

Less often: stomach pain, vomiting, indigestion, dry mouth or fever.

Stop taking it and get medical help straight away if you have:

• a skin rash, especially with sores in the mouth, throat, nose, eyes or genitals
• blistering or peeling skin
• swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing

Do not give it to children under 2 years.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have had a cough for a long time
• have asthma
• have liver or kidney problems
• have a stomach or duodenal ulcer
• take cough suppressants such as codeine or dextromethorphan
• have a sugar intolerance (some liquids contain sorbitol)

For the oral solution: do not store above 30°C, keep the bottle upright and use within 6 months of opening. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Skin reactions: rare but severe skin reactions have been reported. Stop at the first sign of a rash and contact a doctor.

Pregnancy: it is not recommended, especially in the first 3 months. It is also not recommended while breastfeeding. Ask your doctor first.
