Calcipan-T 50mg Tablets

Calcium pantothenate is a stable form of pantothenic acid, also called vitamin B5. Pantothenic acid helps the body:

• release energy from food and support normal metabolism and growth
• make fatty acids, cholesterol and some hormones

It is found in almost all foods, such as eggs, milk, meat, poultry, lentils, mushrooms, potatoes and whole grains, so a true deficiency is very rare. A supplement may be used when your doctor or pharmacist advises it.

Take it as the label, your doctor or your pharmacist tells you.

• Do not take more than the recommended amount.
• Remember that multivitamins and B-complex products often contain pantothenic acid too.
• A varied, balanced diet remains the best way to get your vitamins.

Pantothenic acid rarely causes side effects. Large doses may cause diarrhoea.

Stop taking it and get medical help straight away if you have signs of an allergic reaction, such as a rash, swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• already take a multivitamin or B-complex supplement
• have a long-term health condition or take regular medicines
• are buying it for a child

Store as directed on the pack or leaflet, and keep out of the reach of children. Ask your pharmacist if you are unsure.

Not a treatment on its own: if you have symptoms such as tingling in the feet or ongoing tiredness, see a doctor to find the cause rather than relying on a supplement.

Amounts: taking 200 mg a day or less from supplements is unlikely to cause harm; there is not enough evidence about higher doses.
