REDOXON (QUICK SOLVE) 500mg Tablets

Vitamin C, also called ascorbic acid, helps protect cells and keep skin, blood vessels, bones and cartilage healthy. It helps wounds heal and helps the body absorb iron from food.

The body cannot make or store vitamin C, so it is needed every day. A severe lack causes scurvy, with signs such as bleeding gums and easy bruising. Most people get enough from fruit and vegetables; supplements may be used when the diet does not provide enough.

Take it as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, or as the pack says.

• Do not take more than the recommended amount.
• If the tablet is effervescent, dissolve it in a glass of water first.
• A varied diet with citrus fruits, peppers, strawberries, broccoli and potatoes is the best way to get vitamin C.

Vitamin C is usually well tolerated at normal amounts. Taking large amounts (more than 1,000 mg a day) can cause:

• stomach pain
• diarrhoea
• wind

These usually stop when you stop taking the supplement. Very high doses may rarely lead to kidney stones.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking a vitamin C supplement if you:

• are pregnant or breastfeeding, as large doses are not recommended in pregnancy
• have had kidney stones
• take other medicines or supplements that also contain vitamin C

Store as directed on the pack and keep out of the reach of children.

Do not take more than the safe amount. Taking less than 1,000 mg a day from supplements is unlikely to cause harm; more than this makes side effects more likely.

Regular vitamin C does not prevent colds for most people, and starting it after a cold begins does not seem to help.
