Lizobal Injections 500mcg Injection

Mecobalamin is a form of vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) that the body uses directly. It helps nerve cells make the proteins and fats they need to stay healthy and repair themselves.

Mecobalamin injection is used for:

• peripheral neuropathy – damage to the nerves of the hands, arms, feet or legs, which can cause numbness, tingling or pain
• megaloblastic anaemia caused by a lack of vitamin B12

A doctor or nurse gives mecobalamin injection into a muscle or a vein. They will decide how often you need it.

• Injections into a muscle are given in a different place each time.
• Tell the person giving the injection straight away if you feel a sharp pain when the needle goes in.
• If it does not seem to help, your doctor should review it rather than continuing for months without a benefit.

Side effects are uncommon. They can include:

• rash
• headache
• a feeling of warmth
• sweating
• pain or hardness where the injection was given

Get medical help straight away if…

• you have signs of a serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), such as difficulty breathing, feeling faint or dizzy from a drop in blood pressure, or swelling of the face, lips or throat

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before you have it if you:

• have ever had an allergic reaction to mecobalamin or any vitamin B12 medicine
• are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding
• are having it for a child – it has not been studied in clinical trials in children

Store at room temperature. Mecobalamin breaks down in light, so the ampoules are kept in their light-protective pack until just before use and used straight after opening.

Mecobalamin injection should only be given by a healthcare professional. A serious allergic reaction is rare but possible, so tell the doctor or nurse at once if you feel unwell during or after the injection.
