Kenacomb Cream 1/0.25/2.5mg Cream

This cream contains three medicines that work together on the skin:

• Triamcinolone acetonide is a corticosteroid (steroid). It reduces redness, swelling, itching and burning.
• Neomycin and gramicidin are antibiotics. They kill bacteria that cause or complicate skin infections.

They are combined so that inflamed skin conditions with a bacterial infection, or a high chance of one, can be treated with a single cream. It is used for short courses on a doctor's advice.

Use it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. It is for use on the skin only.

• Apply a small amount thinly to the affected area only.
• Do not cover the area with a bandage or dressing unless your doctor tells you to.
• Do not apply to open wounds, burns or large areas of skin.
• Keep it away from your eyes. If it gets in, rinse well with water.
• Do not use it for longer than prescribed; long use makes side effects and antibiotic resistance more likely.
• See your doctor if the skin is no better within 7 days or gets worse.
• Do not share your cream with anyone else.

Possible side effects on the skin include:

• burning, itching or irritation
• dryness
• changes in skin colour

Using steroid creams for a long time or on large areas can thin the skin or cause stretch marks.

Stop using it and contact your doctor if:

• the skin becomes more irritated, red or swollen, which can be an allergy to an ingredient (especially neomycin)
• the infection gets worse or spreads

Do not use it, and check with your doctor, if you:

• are allergic to triamcinolone, neomycin, gramicidin or any other ingredient
• have skin TB or a viral skin infection such as chickenpox, cold sores or genital herpes, or a fungal infection other than yeast
• have an ear infection or a hole in your eardrum (do not put it in the ear)
• have atopic eczema and have been told to cover the skin

Tell your doctor if you have used steroids before, need it for large areas or near the eyes, or have poor circulation in the legs.

Large amounts or long use on burns or ulcers can let neomycin into the blood, which may harm the kidneys or hearing.

Store at room temperature (15 to 30°C) and keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: the safety of steroid skin creams in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. Use it only if your doctor advises.

Steroid use: tell any doctor treating you that you have used a steroid cream.

Check your pack: some similar creams also contain nystatin (an antifungal). Ask your pharmacist which ingredients your product contains.
