Dermovate 0.05% Cream

Clobetasol propionate is a corticosteroid (steroid) applied to the skin or scalp. It reduces inflammation, which helps ease itching, redness, dryness, scaling and discomfort.

It is used for stubborn skin and scalp conditions such as:

• psoriasis
• eczema and other inflamed, itchy skin conditions

It comes in several forms, including cream, ointment, gel, lotion, foam, spray, scalp solution and shampoo.

Use it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, and only on the area it was prescribed for.

• Spread a thin, even layer on the affected skin and rub it in gently.
• Do not cover the area with a bandage or wrap unless your doctor says so, as this can increase side effects.
• Keep it away from your eyes and mouth, and do not use it on the groin, genitals, skin folds or armpits unless told to.
• Wash your hands after use.
• Foam can catch fire: avoid flames and smoking while applying it and just after.
• If you miss a dose, apply it when you remember, unless the next one is nearly due. Do not apply extra.
• Tell your doctor if your skin is not better after about 2 weeks.

Common side effects where it is applied include:

• burning, stinging, itching, redness or dryness
• acne, small bumps or a rash
• thin, fragile or shiny skin, easy bruising
• changes in skin colour

Contact your doctor straight away if you have:

• signs of a skin infection where you used it
• a severe rash or skin sores
• sudden weight gain or changes in where body fat is stored
• unusual tiredness, muscle weakness, low mood or irritability

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you:

• are allergic to clobetasol or any other medicine
• have a skin infection
• have diabetes, Cushing's syndrome or liver disease
• use other products on the same area of skin
• are having surgery, including dental work
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding

Children are more likely to get side effects, including slowed growth, so a doctor should weigh the risks first.

Keep it in the original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children.

Strong steroid: use only as prescribed and for as long as your doctor advises. Using too much, for too long or under a cover can let more medicine into the body.

Not for the eyes or mouth: rinse with water if it gets in by accident, and do not swallow it.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.
