Hydrozole 1%/1% Cream

Clotrimazole with hydrocortisone treats fungal skin infections that also cause inflammation, such as swelling, redness and itching.

• Clotrimazole is an antifungal that kills the fungi (and some bacteria) causing the infection.
• Hydrocortisone is a mild steroid that calms the redness, swelling and itch.

It is used for athlete's foot, ringworm, fungal nappy rash, sweat rash in skin folds (such as under the breasts) and thrush on the vulva or the end of the penis.

Use it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, usually as a thin layer rubbed in gently.

• For feet, wash and dry them well, especially between the toes, before applying.
• Do not cover the area with a dressing or bandage. On babies, do not fasten nappies tightly over the cream.
• Wash your hands straight after applying it.
• Do not use it for longer than 7 days. See a doctor if you are not improving by then.
• If you forget a dose, apply it as soon as you can and carry on as normal.
• Do not share towels, and keep the skin clean and dry.

Possible side effects where it is applied include:

• mild burning, irritation, itching, redness or discomfort
• thinning or whitening of the skin, stretch marks, small broken veins or extra hair growth
• an acne-like rash or a new infection
• blurred vision

Stop using it and get medical help straight away if you or your baby have:

• a rash with swelling of the lips, face, throat or tongue
• trouble swallowing or breathing
• weakness, dizziness or feeling faint

Do not use it:

• on broken skin or on large areas of the body
• on the face, eyes or mouth, or for acne, cold sores, shingles, chickenpox, rosacea or herpes
• on untreated bacterial skin infections or vaccination reactions
• if you (or your baby) are allergic to either ingredient

Long-term use over large areas should be avoided, especially in babies and children. Some brands contain benzyl alcohol or cetostearyl alcohol, which can irritate the skin.

Store in the original carton below 25°C and use within 6 months of opening. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Condoms and diaphragms: if used on the genitals, the cream can make latex contraceptives less reliable; use other protection during treatment and for at least 5 days after.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: avoid in the first 3 months of pregnancy, and tell your doctor if you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breastfeeding. The leaflet advises not to breastfeed during treatment.

External use only: do not swallow. If it gets in your eyes or mouth, rinse with water and contact a doctor. Report any blurred vision.
