Elezo 100/100mg Syrup

Iron polysaccharide complex is a form of iron taken by mouth. It is used to prevent and treat iron deficiency anaemia, when the body does not have enough iron to make healthy red blood cells.

The type and cause of anaemia should be found by a doctor before treatment, and the cause corrected where possible.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. Do not take more than recommended.

• Taking it with meals can help reduce stomach upset such as feeling sick.
• If you take tetracycline antibiotics, leave at least 2 hours between them and the iron, as iron stops them being absorbed.
• If you miss a dose, ask your pharmacist what to do. Do not take two doses to make up.
• Treatment of anaemia should be supervised by a doctor.

Side effects are usually short-lived and may include:

• constipation or diarrhoea
• feeling sick or being sick
• tummy pain
• dark or black stools (this is expected with iron)

Get medical help straight away if:

• a child swallows any of this medicine by accident, or anyone takes too much
• you have signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, swelling or difficulty breathing

Do not take it if you:

• are allergic to any of its ingredients
• have haemochromatosis or haemosiderosis (too much iron stored in the body)

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• take tetracycline antibiotics
• have not yet been told the cause of your anaemia

Store at room temperature in a tightly closed, light-resistant container, away from excess heat and moisture. Keep well out of the reach of children.

Danger to children: accidental overdose of iron products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6. Keep it locked away. If a child swallows some, contact a doctor or poison centre immediately.
