Uropin 100mg Tablets

Phenazopyridine hydrochloride is a urinary pain reliever. It works on the lining of the urinary tract to ease:

• pain or burning when passing urine
• needing to pass urine urgently or often

These symptoms may come from an infection, surgery, injury or a medical test. It is not an antibiotic and does not cure an infection, so you may also need other treatment.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, usually after meals.

• Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Chewing or crushing it can stain your teeth.
• You can usually stop once the pain and discomfort have gone. If symptoms continue after you finish, see your doctor.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due; then skip the missed one. Never take two doses together.

Your urine will turn reddish-orange or brown. This is expected and harmless, but it can stain clothes.

Other side effects include:

• headache
• dizziness
• upset stomach

Contact your doctor straight away if you have:

• yellow skin or eyes
• fever or confusion
• bluish or purple skin, or shortness of breath
• a rash, or swelling of the face, hands or feet
• a sudden drop in how much urine you pass

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• are allergic to phenazopyridine or any other medicine
• have, or have had, kidney disease
• have G6PD deficiency (an inherited blood enzyme problem)
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding
• have diabetes and test your urine for sugar or ketones: it can upset the results
• take any other medicines, vitamins or herbal products

Keep it in its original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Contact lenses: it can stain contact lenses, so do not wear them while taking it.

Not a cure: it only eases symptoms. If you have an infection, take the antibiotic your doctor prescribes as well.

Lab tests: tell staff you are taking it before any urine test.
