Tenofomide Tablets 25mg Tablets

Tenofovir alafenamide is an antiviral medicine (a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor). It is used to treat long-term (chronic) hepatitis B infection in the liver by reducing the amount of virus in the blood.

It does not cure hepatitis B, may not prevent its complications such as liver damage, and does not stop you passing the virus to others.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, usually once a day.

• Take it with food, at about the same time each day.
• Keep taking it even if you feel well, and refill your supply before it runs out.
• Missing doses can let the virus become resistant and harder to treat.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due; then skip the missed one. Never take two doses together.

A common side effect is headache.

Contact your doctor straight away if you have:

• passing much less urine, or swelling of the feet or ankles
• pain in the arms, hands, legs or feet
• extreme tiredness, feeling or being sick, loss of appetite
• yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools or pain in the upper right tummy
• unusual muscle pain, fast breathing, dizziness, or a fast or irregular heartbeat

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have, or have had, HIV: you may be tested first, as untreated HIV can become harder to treat
• have kidney disease or liver disease other than hepatitis B
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding
• take St John's wort, or painkillers such as aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen
• take any other medicines, vitamins or herbal products

Store at room temperature in the original, tightly closed container, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Do not stop suddenly: hepatitis B can flare up badly when this medicine is stopped. Your doctor will check you with examinations and blood tests for several months after stopping.

Keep appointments: regular checks help your doctor see how well it is working.
