Spasfon Injection 40/0.04mg Injection

Phloroglucinol and trimethylphloroglucinol injection is an antispasmodic. It relaxes smooth muscle to ease spasm (cramping) pain in the:

• intestine (gut)
• bile ducts
• bladder
• uterus (womb)

It is used during an attack of spasm pain. Tablets or other forms may be used afterwards if needed.

A doctor or nurse gives this medicine as an injection into a vein or a muscle.

• The number of injections depends on how severe the spasms are.
• It must not be mixed in the same syringe with other medicines.
• If you think you have been given too much, tell your doctor straight away.

Side effects are not common. Allergic reactions can happen.

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• a skin rash or itching
• sudden swelling of the face or neck
• feeling faint or collapsing (sudden drop in blood pressure)

Tell your doctor or nurse before treatment if you:

• are allergic to phloroglucinol, trimethylphloroglucinol or any other ingredient
• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• take any other medicines

Hospital staff store the ampoules protected from light. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Pregnancy: it should only be used in pregnancy if needed.

Breastfeeding: not recommended.

Children: there is no information on use in children.

Driving: it has little or no effect on driving.
