Lice-O Mite Cream 5% Cream

Permethrin kills tiny insects and mites. Permethrin cream is used to treat scabies, and permethrin lotion or rinse is used for head lice, in adults and children aged 2 months and older.

Use it exactly as your doctor, pharmacist or the leaflet tells you.

• Scabies: apply a thin layer to cool, dry skin from the neck down to the toes, including the soles of the feet and skin folds. Babies and older adults may also need it on the scalp, temples and forehead. Leave it on for the time stated, then wash it off.
• Head lice: apply to washed, towel-dried hair and scalp, leave for the time stated, then rinse over a sink.
• Keep it out of the eyes, nose, mouth, ears and vagina. If it gets in your eyes, rinse with water straight away.
• Wash recently used clothes, towels and bedding in very hot water.
• Close contacts, family members and sexual partners may also need treatment at the same time.

Common side effects on the treated skin include:

• itching or redness
• tingling or numbness
• a mild rash

Itching from scabies can last for a few weeks after successful treatment.

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• trouble breathing
• skin irritation that does not go away, or skin that looks infected or has pus

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you:

• are allergic to permethrin, pyrethrins or ragweed
• have other skin conditions
• are treating a baby under 2 months
• are pregnant or breastfeeding

Store at room temperature in the original, tightly closed container, away from heat and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

For skin and hair only: do not swallow it. If someone swallows it, get medical advice straight away.

If you still see live mites 2 weeks after scabies treatment, or live lice a week after lice treatment, ask your doctor or pharmacist about treating again.
