Endtron Injection 8mg Injection

Ondansetron is an anti-sickness (antiemetic) medicine. The injection is used to prevent or treat feeling sick (nausea) and being sick (vomiting) caused by:

• chemotherapy or radiotherapy, in adults and children over 6 months
• surgery, in adults and children over 1 month

A doctor or nurse gives ondansetron as an injection into a vein or muscle, or as a drip (infusion) into a vein.

• It is usually given just before chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery. You may then be given tablets or syrup to take for a few days.
• It is not mixed with other medicines in the same syringe or drip.
• Tell your doctor or nurse if you still feel or are sick.

Common side effects include:

• headache
• a feeling of warmth or flushing
• constipation
• redness or irritation where the injection was given

Get medical help straight away if…

• you have sudden wheezing, chest tightness, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, a lumpy rash or collapse (serious allergic reaction)
• you have sudden chest pain or tightness
• you have a fast, slow or irregular heartbeat, or faint

Do not have ondansetron if you are allergic to it or to similar medicines (such as granisetron), or if you take apomorphine for Parkinson's disease.

Tell your doctor if you:

• have heart problems, an irregular heartbeat, or low potassium, sodium or magnesium
• have a blocked bowel or severe constipation
• have liver problems
• are having your tonsils removed
• take tramadol, antidepressants (SSRIs or SNRIs), carbamazepine, phenytoin, rifampicin or heart medicines

Hospital staff store the ampoules in their outer carton to protect them from light.

Ondansetron may slightly raise the risk of cleft lip or palate if used in the first 3 months of pregnancy – talk to your doctor if you are or could be pregnant. Do not breastfeed while having ondansetron. Each ml contains a small amount of sodium.
