Motilium 10mg Tablets

Domperidone is used to treat feeling sick (nausea) and being sick (vomiting) in adults and in teenagers aged 12 and over who weigh at least 35 kg.

It works by helping the stomach empty and by blocking signals to the part of the brain that triggers vomiting. It usually starts to work within 30 to 60 minutes.

Take domperidone exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, at the lowest dose that works.

• Take it 15 to 30 minutes before a meal or snack.
• For the liquid, use the measuring syringe or spoon that comes with it.
• It is usually taken for no longer than 1 week.
• If you forget a dose, take it when you remember only if your next dose is at least 2 hours away; otherwise skip it. Never take two doses together.
• Use only one type of anti-sickness medicine at a time unless your doctor says otherwise.

The most common side effect is a dry mouth, which is usually mild.

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• a racing, pounding or irregular heartbeat, fainting or trouble breathing (stop taking it)
• a fit (seizure)
• uncontrolled movements of the muscles or eyes
• difficulty passing urine
• signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as swelling of the lips, mouth or throat, or trouble breathing (call emergency services)

Do not take it if you have a heart rhythm problem (such as a prolonged QT interval), heart failure, moderate or severe liver disease, bleeding or blockage in the gut, or a prolactinoma. Check with your doctor or pharmacist first if you:

• are over 60
• have kidney problems
• have low potassium or magnesium, or high potassium
• weigh less than 35 kg
• take antifungals (such as ketoconazole or fluconazole), antibiotics such as erythromycin or clarithromycin, heart rhythm medicines, some antidepressants or antipsychotics, HIV medicines or apomorphine

Do not store above 30°C and do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep the tablets in the original package to protect from light, out of the sight and reach of children.

Heart: domperidone may slightly increase the risk of a dangerous heart rhythm and cardiac arrest, especially in people over 60 or at higher doses.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: it may be used in pregnancy if other anti-sickness medicines have not worked. Small amounts pass into breast milk, so only use it while breastfeeding if your doctor advises it.

Alcohol and driving: avoid alcohol. Do not drive if you feel sleepy or dizzy, or notice an irregular heartbeat.
