Albocam Tablet 20mg Tablets

Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It eases pain, tenderness, swelling and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

It controls symptoms but does not cure the condition.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, at about the same time each day, using the lowest dose for the shortest time.

• Do not take more, or more often, than prescribed.
• Do not take it with other NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen or aspirin unless your doctor says so.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember, unless your next dose is nearly due. Never take two doses together.

Common side effects include:

• diarrhoea, constipation or wind
• headache, dizziness
• ringing in the ears

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• black or bloody stools, or vomit that is bloody or looks like coffee grounds
• shortness of breath or a fast heartbeat
• a rash, blisters, hives, or swelling of the face or throat
• yellow skin or eyes
• swelling of the legs, unexplained weight gain
• unusual bleeding or bruising, or vision changes

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have had a stomach ulcer or bleeding
• have heart disease, heart failure, high blood pressure, or have had a heart attack or stroke
• have kidney or liver disease
• have asthma, especially with nasal polyps
• take blood thinners, steroids, SSRI or SNRI antidepressants, or drink alcohol heavily
• are 75 or older
• are pregnant or breastfeeding

Do not take it just before or after heart bypass surgery.

Store at room temperature in the original, tightly closed container, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Keep out of the reach of children.

Heart and stomach: NSAIDs like piroxicam can raise the risk of heart attack, stroke and stomach bleeding, sometimes without warning. The risk is higher with long use and in older people.

Pregnancy: do not take it from about 20 weeks of pregnancy unless your doctor tells you to, as it may harm the baby.
