Abriva Tablet 400mg Tablets

Sofosbuvir is an antiviral medicine used to treat certain types of chronic hepatitis C, a long-lasting viral infection that damages the liver. It belongs to a group called nucleotide polymerase inhibitors and works by lowering the amount of hepatitis C virus in the body.

It is always used together with other hepatitis C medicines chosen by your doctor. It may not stop you passing hepatitis C to other people.

Take sofosbuvir exactly as your doctor tells you, once a day at about the same time.

• You can take it with or without food.
• Take all the medicines in your hepatitis C course as prescribed and finish the full course, even if you feel well.
• If you miss a dose and remember the same day, take it then. If you only remember the next day, skip it. Never take two doses in one day.
• Do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

Common side effects include:

• tiredness and headache
• diarrhoea
• muscle aches
• trouble sleeping or irritability
• itching or rash

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• fainting or near-fainting, dizziness, weakness, unusual tiredness or breathlessness, chest pain or confusion (possible slow heartbeat, especially if you take amiodarone)
• yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, loss of appetite, sickness or tummy pain (possible liver problems)

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have ever had hepatitis B
• have HIV, another liver disease, a liver transplant or kidney disease, or are on dialysis
• take amiodarone or other heart rhythm medicines
• take any other medicines, herbal products or supplements, including St John's wort
• are pregnant, or your partner could become pregnant, or you are breastfeeding

Store at room temperature in the original, tightly closed container, away from heat and moisture, and out of the reach of children.

Hepatitis B: sofosbuvir can make a hidden hepatitis B infection flare up seriously. You will have a blood test before treatment and may be monitored during and after it.

Amiodarone: taking it with amiodarone can cause a dangerously slow heartbeat. Tell your doctor if you take or recently took amiodarone.

Pregnancy: some medicines used with sofosbuvir (such as ribavirin) can harm an unborn baby, so you and your partner may need pregnancy tests and effective contraception.
