Polyfax 10000IU/500IU per g Ointment

Polymyxin B and bacitracin are two antibiotics combined in an ointment for the skin. Using them together covers a wider range of bacteria than either one alone.

As a first aid product, it is used to help prevent infection in:

• minor cuts
• scrapes and grazes
• minor burns

Use it as the label, your doctor or pharmacist tells you. It is for use on the skin only.

• Clean the area first.
• Put on a small amount (about the size of a fingertip) as directed on the pack.
• You can cover the area with a clean, sterile dressing.
• Do not use it for longer than 1 week unless a doctor tells you to.

Most people use it without problems. Some people may get skin irritation where it is applied.

Stop using it and get medical help if you have:

• a rash or other signs of an allergic reaction
• swelling of the face, lips or throat, or trouble breathing (get emergency help)
• a wound that gets worse instead of better

Do not use it:

• if you are allergic to polymyxin B, bacitracin or any other ingredient
• in the eyes
• over large areas of the body

Ask a doctor before using it on deep or puncture wounds, animal bites or serious burns.

Store at room temperature (20 to 25°C) and keep out of the reach of children.

External use only: if it is swallowed, get medical help or contact a poison centre straight away.

See a doctor if the wound does not get better within a week or gets worse.
