Eclotec 100mg Tablets

Aceclofenac belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by reducing the body's production of prostaglandins, chemicals that cause pain and swelling.

It is used to relieve pain and inflammation in:

• osteoarthritis
• rheumatoid arthritis
• ankylosing spondylitis

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.

• Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water, with or after food. Do not crush or chew them.
• The lowest dose that works should be used for the shortest time needed, especially in older people.
• If you miss a dose, just take the next one at the usual time. Never take two doses together.
• Do not stop taking it without speaking to your doctor first.

Common side effects include:

• feeling sick or diarrhoea
• dizziness
• changes in liver blood tests

Less often, people get wind, constipation, vomiting, mouth ulcers, itching or a rash.

Stop taking it and get medical help straight away if you have:

• black, tarry poo, blood in your poo, or vomit that contains blood
• severe stomach pain or indigestion
• swelling of the face or throat, wheezing, chest tightness or trouble breathing
• a skin rash that blisters or peels
• a stiff neck, headache and fever (signs of meningitis)
• much less pee than usual, or unusual tiredness, breathlessness or bruising

Do not take it if you have ever reacted to aspirin or another NSAID (for example with asthma, hives or swelling), or if you have, or have had, a stomach ulcer or bleeding.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have heart disease, have had a stroke, or have circulation problems, high blood pressure or high cholesterol
• have kidney or liver problems
• have asthma, diabetes, lupus, porphyria or bowel disease
• have chickenpox or recently had major surgery
• take blood thinners, clopidogrel, SSRIs, lithium, digoxin, water tablets, blood pressure medicines, methotrexate, steroids, ciclosporin, tacrolimus or other painkillers

Store below 30°C in the original box, out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.

Heart and stomach: NSAIDs like aceclofenac can slightly raise the risk of heart attack or stroke and can cause stomach bleeding, especially at high doses or with long use.

Pregnancy: do not take it in the last 3 months of pregnancy. Earlier in pregnancy it should only be used if your doctor says it is essential. It is not recommended while breastfeeding, and it may make it harder to get pregnant.

Driving: do not drive or use machines if you feel dizzy, drowsy or tired, or your vision is affected.

Children: it is not recommended for children.
