DETRIFLOW 2mg Tablets

Tolterodine tartrate is an antimuscarinic medicine that relaxes the muscle in the bladder wall. This lets the bladder hold more urine, so you need to pee less often and less urgently.

It is used to treat symptoms of an overactive bladder:

• a sudden, urgent need to pee
• needing to pee more often than usual
• leaking urine if you cannot reach the toilet in time

It is also used, on specialist advice, for bedwetting in children.

Take tolterodine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. It comes as standard tablets and slow-release capsules.

• You can take it with or without food.
• Swallow tablets and capsules whole with water. Do not chew slow-release capsules.
• It can take 4 weeks or more to work fully. Talk to your doctor if there is no improvement after 1 to 2 weeks.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due. Never take two doses together.
• Keep taking it until your doctor says to stop. Your doctor will review it regularly.

Common side effects include:

• dry mouth
• headache, dizziness or sleepiness
• blurred vision
• constipation, diarrhoea, wind or being sick

Call a doctor straight away if you have:

• difficulty starting to pee or emptying your bladder
• stomach pain, a constant urge to poo or being unable to poo
• fever, chills, burning when peeing, back or side pain, or cloudy or bloody pee
• swollen ankles, feet or legs

Get emergency help for chest pain, severe breathing problems, or swelling of the lips, mouth or throat.

Check with your doctor before taking it if you:

• have ever had an allergic reaction to tolterodine or any medicine
• cannot empty your bladder, or have an enlarged prostate
• have angle-closure glaucoma or myasthenia gravis
• have severe constipation, digestive problems, reflux, a hiatus hernia or a severe bowel condition
• have kidney or liver problems
• have heart problems, including long QT, heart failure or an irregular heartbeat
• have dementia or memory problems

Tell your doctor if you take erythromycin, clarithromycin, itraconazole, fluconazole, HIV medicines, heart rhythm medicines, tricyclic antidepressants, sedatives or dementia medicines.

Keep in the original container, tightly closed, at room temperature away from light, heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Driving: do not drive, cycle or use machines if it makes you sleepy, dizzy or gives you blurred vision.

Alcohol: avoid alcohol when you first start, as together they can make you very sleepy.

Pregnancy: not usually recommended. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant.

Breastfeeding: it can be used if needed, but other medicines may be better. Ask your doctor.
