Citro-Soda 4g Sachet

Sodium citrate is used to ease the symptoms of mild cystitis in women, such as burning or stinging when passing urine. It works by making the urine less acidic, which can make passing urine less painful.

It relieves symptoms only. It does not kill bacteria, so an infection that does not settle needs a doctor's review.

Use it as the pack, your doctor or pharmacist tells you.

• Check the sachet is not damaged before use.
• Dissolve the granules in a glass of water and drink it.
• It is usually taken as a short 2-day course.
• Do not take more than the stated dose, and do not repeat the course without medical advice.
• Cystitis-relief sachets are for adult women only; they are not for men or children unless a doctor advises.

Most people do not have side effects. Some people may:

• need to pass urine more often

See a doctor if:

• your symptoms last more than 4 days after you start, keep coming back, or get worse after the 2-day course
• you have any side effect that worries you

Do not take it, unless your doctor says so, if you:

• are allergic to any of the ingredients
• have diabetes, heart disease or high blood pressure
• have, or have had, kidney disease
• are on a low-salt (sodium) diet
• cannot tolerate some sugars (some products contain sucrose)
• are pregnant or breastfeeding

Check with a pharmacist if you take lithium, methenamine or other medicines.

Do not store above 25°C. Keep in a dry place, out of the sight and reach of children.

High in sodium: each sachet contains a large amount of sodium (salt), close to half the recommended daily maximum for an adult.

When to see a doctor: get medical advice if symptoms continue, come back often, or worsen, as you may need other treatment.
