Ozix 500mg Capsules

Cefadroxil is an antibiotic from the cephalosporin group. It works by killing bacteria.

It is used to treat certain bacterial infections. It may also be used in some people with heart conditions who are allergic to penicillin, to help prevent a heart valve infection before some dental or throat procedures.

It will not work for colds, flu or other viral infections.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, at about the same times each day.

• You can take it with or without food; taking it with food may ease stomach upset.
• Shake the liquid well before each dose.
• Finish the whole course, even if you feel better. Stopping early may let the infection come back and add to antibiotic resistance.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is almost due. Do not take a double dose.
• Tell your doctor if you do not feel better within a few days.

Common side effects include:

• diarrhoea
• being sick
• genital itching

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• watery or bloody diarrhoea, stomach cramps or fever – even up to 2 months after finishing
• rash, hives, wheezing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
• yellow skin or eyes, dark urine or pale stools
• a sore throat, chills or other signs that the infection has returned

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• are allergic to cefadroxil, other cephalosporins, penicillin or any other medicine
• have kidney disease
• have had bowel disease, especially colitis
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding
• take other medicines or supplements

Store capsules and tablets at room temperature away from heat and moisture. Keep the liquid in the fridge and throw away any left after 14 days. Keep out of reach of children.

If you have diabetes and test your urine for sugar, this medicine can affect some tests – ask your pharmacist which test to use.
