Nocid 20mg Tablets

Famotidine lowers the amount of acid your stomach makes. It belongs to a group of medicines called H2 blockers.

It is used to:

• treat stomach and duodenal ulcers
• treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• treat conditions where the stomach makes too much acid
• prevent and relieve heartburn, acid indigestion and sour stomach

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.

• Swallow tablets with a glass of water. Shake liquid well before each dose.
• To prevent heartburn, it can be taken 15–60 minutes before food or drink that triggers symptoms.
• If you buy it without a prescription, do not use it for more than 2 weeks unless a doctor advises.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is near. Do not double up.

Common side effects include:

• headache
• dizziness
• constipation or diarrhoea

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• hives, rash or itching
• swelling of the face, lips, throat, hands or feet
• hoarseness, or difficulty breathing or swallowing

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have kidney disease
• have, or have had, trouble swallowing
• are allergic to famotidine, cimetidine, nizatidine or ranitidine
• have phenylketonuria (PKU)
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding
• take other medicines

Keep in the original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Do not freeze the liquid, and throw away any left after 30 days.

If heartburn lasts longer than 2 weeks, or you have trouble swallowing, stop self-treatment and see a doctor, as these symptoms may need checking.
