Mydosone Eye Ointment 100/2.5/100mg Ointment

This eye ointment contains two medicines:

• Sulfacetamide sodium (sulphacetamide) is a sulfonamide antibiotic that stops bacteria growing in the eye.
• Prednisolone acetate is a corticosteroid (steroid) that reduces redness, swelling and irritation.

They are combined to treat inflammatory eye conditions where there is a bacterial infection or a risk of one. It may also be used for eye injuries from chemical, radiation or heat burns.

Use it exactly as your doctor tells you. It is for the eyes only.

• Wash your hands. Pull down the lower eyelid and place a small amount of ointment in the pocket between the eyelid and the eye.
• Do not let the tube tip touch your eye or any surface, as this can contaminate the ointment.
• Do not wear contact lenses during treatment.
• Keep using it as directed even if you feel better early; do not change the amount without asking your doctor.
• Talk to your doctor if your symptoms are not better after two days.
• Steroid eye medicines should not be used for more than 10 days unless an eye specialist is checking your eye pressure regularly.
• Do not share your ointment with anyone.

Possible side effects include:

• blurred vision, eye irritation, redness, itching or a gritty feeling
• rash or itching around the eye, drooping eyelid or larger pupils
• headache or a changed sense of taste

Stop using it and get medical help straight away if you have:

• an allergic reaction: hives, rash, fever, swelling of the face, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing or swallowing
• blistering or peeling skin, especially in the mouth or eyes
• severe eye pain, loss of vision, halos around lights, or nausea and vomiting (possible glaucoma)
• a worsening eye infection: pain, redness, swelling, sensitivity to light or yellow discharge

Tell your doctor if you notice cloudy vision or glare (possible cataract).

Do not use it if you:

• have a viral eye infection such as herpes keratitis, or a fungal, TB or pus-forming eye infection
• are allergic to sulfacetamide, sulfonamide antibiotics, steroids or any ingredient

Check with your doctor before using it if you:

• have glaucoma
• have recently had cataract surgery
• have thinning or damage of the surface of the eye
• use local anaesthetic eye drops or silver-containing eye medicines

Store at 15 to 25°C, standing upright. Protect from light and freezing, and keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Driving: your vision may be blurred for a while after using it. Wait until you can see clearly before driving or using machines.

Long-term use: steroids can hide or worsen infections and raise eye pressure. Your doctor may check your eyes during treatment.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Children: safety has not been shown in children under 6.
