Kempro Tablets 5mg Tablets

Procyclidine is an anticholinergic medicine. It works by blocking the effect of a chemical messenger called acetylcholine.

It is used to:

• ease symptoms of Parkinson's disease, such as stiffness, shaking, drooling, sweating and difficulty walking, speaking or writing
• control movement side effects (such as shaking, restlessness or unusual body movements) caused by some medicines, including antipsychotics

Take procyclidine as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. Your dose is usually increased gradually.

• Swallow the tablets with water.
• You can take it with or without food; taking it with meals may help if it makes you feel sick.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, then carry on as before.
• Do not stop taking it without talking to your doctor.
• If you take too much, get medical help straight away and take the pack with you.

Common side effects include:

• dry mouth
• blurred vision
• constipation
• difficulty passing urine

Less common: feeling sick, sore gums, dizziness, nervousness, confusion, poor memory or concentration, anxiety and rash.

Tell your doctor straight away if you have:

• uncontrolled movements of the face or tongue, or worsening unusual movements of the arms or legs
• confusion, seeing or hearing things that are not there, or severe agitation

Do not take procyclidine if you have difficulty passing urine, closed-angle glaucoma, stomach cramps or constipation. It is not for children.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• are older, have glaucoma or a bowel blockage, or an enlarged prostate
• have a mental illness, or kidney or liver problems
• cannot tolerate some sugars (tablets contain lactose)
• take medicines for mental health or dementia, levodopa, amantadine, disopyramide, quinidine, nitrates, domperidone, metoclopramide, antihistamines, nefopam, ketoconazole or paroxetine

Do not store above 25°C. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Driving: it can cause blurred vision, dizziness or confusion. Do not drive or use machines if affected.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: talk to your doctor before taking it if you are pregnant, may become pregnant or are breastfeeding.

Do not stop suddenly without your doctor's advice.
