Hepa Merz Granules 3g Sachet

L-ornithine L-aspartate helps the liver and other tissues get rid of ammonia, a waste product that can build up when the liver is damaged.

It is used to treat hepatic encephalopathy, both mild hidden forms and more obvious forms. This is a condition where liver disease, such as chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis, affects the brain.

Use it exactly as your doctor tells you.

• For the granules, dissolve the contents of the sachet in a glass of water.
• Take it during or after a meal.
• If you miss a dose, take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose.
• The injection form is given in hospital by a healthcare professional.

Side effects are uncommon and usually pass without needing to stop treatment. They can include:

• feeling or being sick
• tummy pain or bloating
• diarrhoea
• very rarely, pain in the arms or legs

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• signs of an allergic reaction, such as a rash, wheezing or swelling of the face or throat

Do not take it if you:

• are allergic to L-ornithine L-aspartate or any other ingredient, including the colouring sunset yellow (E110)
• have severe kidney failure
• have an inherited problem with the urea cycle (how the body handles certain amino acids)
• have fructose intolerance

Some granule products contain fructose, so take this into account if you have diabetes. Long-term use may harm teeth. Ask your doctor before giving it to children.

Store as stated on the pack (for example, the oral granules should not be stored above 25°C), and keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: it is best avoided, and should only be used if your doctor advises it.

Allergy: the E110 colouring in some products can cause allergic reactions, including asthma, especially in people sensitive to aspirin.

Driving: the liver condition itself can affect your ability to drive or use machines. Ask your doctor.
