Exlant Capsule 30mg Capsules

Dexlansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It lowers the amount of acid your stomach makes.

It is used to:

• treat heartburn and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), where acid flows back up into the food pipe
• heal erosive oesophagitis (damage to the food pipe caused by acid) and help keep it healed

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, usually once a day at about the same time.

• You can take it with or without food.
• Swallow capsules whole; do not chew or crush them.
• If swallowing is hard, open the capsule and sprinkle the contents on a spoonful of applesauce, then swallow at once without chewing.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due. Do not double up.
• Keep taking it even if you feel well, and do not stop without talking to your doctor.

Common side effects include:

• nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or wind
• erection problems in men

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• severe watery diarrhoea, tummy pain or a fever that will not go away
• blistering, peeling skin, mouth sores, fever or flu-like symptoms
• rash, swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing
• an irregular heartbeat, muscle spasms, seizures or dizziness
• blood in your urine, passing less urine or unusual tiredness
• new joint pain or a rash on sun-exposed skin

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have low magnesium, calcium, potassium, sodium or vitamin B12
• have osteoporosis or a parathyroid problem
• have lupus or another autoimmune disease
• have liver disease
• take iron supplements, St John's wort or other medicines
• are 65 or older
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding

Store at room temperature in the original, tightly closed container, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Long-term use: using PPIs at high doses or for a year or more can raise the risk of hip, wrist and spine fractures and of stomach polyps. Use it only for as long as your doctor recommends.

Pregnancy: tell your doctor if you are pregnant or become pregnant while taking it.
