Emptin OD Tablets 150mg Tablets

Itopride is a prokinetic medicine. It helps the stomach and gut muscles move food along more quickly.

It is used in adults to ease symptoms of slow stomach emptying, such as:

• feeling full quickly or upper tummy pain
• poor appetite
• heartburn
• nausea and vomiting

It is meant for these symptoms when they are not caused by an ulcer or another physical disease of the gut.

Take it exactly as your doctor tells you.

• Take it before meals.
• It is for short-term use only. Your doctor will decide how long, but it should not usually be used for more than 8 weeks.
• If you forget a dose, just take the next one at the usual time. Do not take a double dose.
• Speak to your doctor before stopping, as your symptoms may return.

Side effects are uncommon. They may include:

• diarrhoea, constipation or tummy pain
• producing more saliva
• headache or dizziness
• rash, redness or itching
• shaking (tremor) or nausea

Stop taking it and contact your doctor straight away if you have:

• swelling of the face, lips, throat, hands or legs, or difficulty swallowing or breathing
• yellowing of the skin or eyes
• bruising or bleeding more easily than usual
• milk leaking from the breasts, or breast enlargement in men

Do not take it if you:

• are allergic to itopride or any other ingredient
• have bleeding, a blockage or a tear (perforation) in the stomach or gut

Tell your doctor about all your medicines. Anticholinergic medicines (used for some bladder, gut, breathing or Parkinson's problems) may weaken its effect, and itopride may change how some other medicines are absorbed, especially slow-release ones. Older people may need a lower dose. It is not for children and teenagers under 16.

No special storage conditions are needed. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Pregnancy: only use in pregnancy if your doctor decides the benefits clearly outweigh the risks.

Breastfeeding: your doctor will decide whether to stop breastfeeding or stop the medicine.

Driving: it can very rarely cause dizziness. If it does, do not drive or use machines until it passes.
