Delpoflex 4mg Tablets

Tizanidine is a skeletal muscle relaxant. It calms activity in the brain and nervous system so tight muscles can relax.

It is used to relieve muscle spasms, cramping and tightness caused by conditions such as:

• multiple sclerosis (MS)
• spinal cord injury

Take tizanidine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. Your doctor will usually start with a low dose and increase it slowly.

• Take it the same way each time: either always with food or always without food, because food changes how much is absorbed.
• Tablets and capsules can act differently. Do not swap between them without asking your doctor.
• If you take it regularly and miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due. Never take a double dose.
• Do not stop suddenly. This can cause a fast heartbeat, high blood pressure and muscle tightness. Your doctor will lower the dose slowly.

Common side effects include:

• drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness or weakness
• dry mouth
• nervousness
• vomiting or constipation

Call your doctor straight away if you have:

• yellow skin or eyes, pain in the upper right tummy, extreme tiredness, loss of appetite, unusual bruising or flu-like symptoms (possible liver problems)
• a slow heartbeat, or feeling faint
• seeing or hearing things that are not there
• changes in your vision
• rash, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• are allergic to tizanidine or any other medicine
• have kidney or liver disease
• take blood pressure medicines
• take any other medicines, vitamins or herbal products

Do not take tizanidine with fluvoxamine or ciprofloxacin. Some other medicines should be avoided too, including cimetidine, famotidine, some heart rhythm medicines, aciclovir and the contraceptive pill. Always ask before starting a new medicine.

Keep in the original container, tightly closed, at room temperature away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Drowsiness and driving: it can make you sleepy. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.

Alcohol: alcohol adds to the drowsiness.

Low blood pressure: you may feel dizzy or faint when standing up, especially at first. Get up slowly. It also lowers muscle tone, so take care with balance.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Surgery: tell your doctor or dentist that you take tizanidine.
