ZATOFEN Tablet 200mg Tablets

Metoprolol tartrate is a beta blocker. It slows the heart rate and relaxes blood vessels, so the heart does not have to work as hard. It is used to:

• lower high blood pressure
• prevent chest pain (angina)
• improve survival after a heart attack
• help with some irregular heartbeats and other heart problems, as your doctor decides

It may also be used to help prevent migraine.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.

• Take it with a meal or just after eating, at about the same time each day.
• Your doctor may start with a low dose and raise it slowly.
• Keep taking it even if you feel well.
• If you miss a dose, skip it and take the next one at the usual time. Never take two doses together.

Common side effects include:

• dizziness or light-headedness
• tiredness
• diarrhoea
• dry mouth
• rash or itching

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• shortness of breath or trouble breathing
• swelling of the hands, feet, ankles or lower legs, or sudden weight gain
• fainting
• a fast, pounding or irregular heartbeat

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have a slow or irregular heartbeat or heart failure
• have asthma or other lung disease
• have poor circulation, liver disease, an overactive thyroid or a tumour of the adrenal gland (phaeochromocytoma)
• have diabetes: it can hide the warning signs of low blood sugar
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding
• are having surgery or dental treatment
• take any other medicines, vitamins or herbal products

Keep it in its original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Do not stop suddenly: stopping all at once can cause serious heart problems such as chest pain or a heart attack. Your doctor will lower the dose slowly if needed.

Dizziness: take care when driving or doing tasks that need alertness until you know how it affects you.

Allergies: allergic reactions may be more severe while taking it.
