Wilsop 30mg Capsules

Dexlansoprazole lowers the amount of acid your stomach makes. It is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). The capsules contain two kinds of pellets that release the medicine at two different times, so it keeps working through the day.

It is used to:

• treat heartburn caused by gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• heal erosive oesophagitis (damage to the food pipe from acid) and keep it healed

Take it as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, once a day at about the same time.

• You can take it with or without food.
• Swallow the capsule whole. Do not chew or crush it.
• If swallowing is hard, open the capsule, sprinkle the pellets on a tablespoon of applesauce and swallow straight away without chewing.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due. Never double up.
• Do not stop without talking to your doctor.

Common side effects include:

• diarrhoea
• feeling or being sick
• wind

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• severe watery diarrhoea, stomach pain or fever that does not go away
• blistering, peeling skin, mouth sores or fever
• rash, swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing
• a fast or uneven heartbeat, muscle spasms or fits (possible low magnesium)
• joint pain or a rash on sun-exposed skin
• changes in how much you urinate or blood in your urine

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have low magnesium, calcium, potassium or sodium, or low vitamin B12
• have osteoporosis
• have lupus or another autoimmune disease
• have liver disease
• are 65 or older
• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• take iron supplements or St John's wort

Store at room temperature in the closed original container, away from heat and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Long-term use: taking a PPI at high doses or for a long time may increase the risk of broken bones in the hip, wrist or spine, and of stomach polyps. Your doctor should check you still need it.

Low magnesium: tell your doctor about muscle twitches, spasms or an uneven heartbeat.
