Vonozan 10mg Tablets

Vonoprazan is a potassium-competitive acid blocker (PCAB). It reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes. It is used to:

• heal erosive oesophagitis (acid damage to the food pipe) and keep it healed
• relieve heartburn
• clear Helicobacter pylori, a germ that causes stomach ulcers, together with antibiotics

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, once or twice a day depending on your condition.

• It can be taken with or without food, at about the same time each day.
• Swallow the tablet whole. Do not split, chew or crush it.
• If you miss a dose, ask your pharmacist what to do: on once-daily dosing, skip it if more than 12 hours have passed; on twice-daily dosing, skip it if more than 4 hours have passed. Never take two doses together.

Common side effects include:

• diarrhoea
• bloating or stomach pain
• feeling sick or indigestion

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• watery stools, stomach pain and fever that do not go away
• a rash with blistering, peeling or bleeding skin
• passing less urine or blood in the urine
• yellow skin or eyes, or dark urine
• bone pain or a broken bone
• an irregular heartbeat, muscle spasms, shaking or seizures
• swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have kidney or liver disease
• have thin bones (osteopenia or osteoporosis)
• have low vitamin B12, calcium, magnesium or potassium
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding
• take iron supplements, St John's wort or any other medicines

Keep it in its original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Long-term use: taking it for more than a year may cause growths (polyps) in the stomach. Talk to your doctor about how long you need it.
