Uperio 100mg Tablets

Sacubitril with valsartan is used to treat long-term (chronic) heart failure, where the heart is too weak to pump enough blood around the body. It is usually given with other heart failure medicines.

The two ingredients work in different ways:

• Valsartan relaxes and widens blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump.
• Sacubitril blocks an enzyme called neprilysin, which helps the body get rid of extra salt and water.

Together they ease the strain on the heart and lower the risk of hospital admission and death from heart failure.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, usually twice a day, morning and evening.

• Swallow the tablets with a glass of water, with or without food. Splitting or crushing is not recommended.
• Your doctor will usually start with a low dose and increase it every 2–4 weeks.
• If you forget a dose, just take the next one at the usual time. Do not take a double dose.
• Do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to, as your heart failure may get worse.

Common side effects include:

• dizziness or light-headedness from low blood pressure, especially when standing up
• cough
• tiredness or weakness
• headache, feeling sick or diarrhoea
• changes in blood tests, such as high potassium or reduced kidney function

Stop taking it and get medical help straight away if you have:

• swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing or swallowing
• tummy pain with sickness, vomiting and diarrhoea (possible swelling of the gut)
• severe dizziness or fainting
• rash or itching

Do not take it with an ACE inhibitor (such as ramipril, enalapril or lisinopril). Leave at least 36 hours between the last ACE inhibitor dose and starting this medicine, and the other way round. Do not take it if you have had angioedema, or have severe liver disease.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist first if you:

• have kidney or liver disease, low blood pressure, or are dehydrated
• have diabetes or kidney problems and take aliskiren
• take potassium supplements or salt substitutes, NSAID painkillers, water tablets, lithium, metformin, statins or erectile dysfunction medicines

Store in the original package to protect from moisture, with no special temperature conditions, and keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Pregnancy: it is not recommended in early pregnancy and must not be taken after the third month, as it can seriously harm the baby. Tell your doctor straight away if you are or might be pregnant.

Breastfeeding: it is not recommended while breastfeeding.

Driving: do not drive or use machines if you feel dizzy or very tired.

Blood tests: your doctor will check your potassium, kidney function and blood pressure regularly.
