Trulicity 1.5mg Injection

Dulaglutide is used to lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a group of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists.

It helps the pancreas release insulin when blood sugar is high, slows down how fast the stomach empties, and may reduce appetite.

In adults with type 2 diabetes who have heart disease or are at risk of it, it also lowers the chance of heart attack, stroke or death from heart disease. It controls diabetes but does not cure it.

Use dulaglutide exactly as your doctor, nurse or pharmacist shows you.

• Inject it under the skin once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food.
• Use the tummy, thigh or upper arm, and change the spot each time. Never inject into a vein or muscle.
• Check that the liquid is clear and colourless before use.
• Never share or reuse pens. Put used pens in a sharps container.
• If you miss a dose, inject it as soon as you remember if there are at least 3 days until your next dose; otherwise skip it. Never take two doses together.

Common side effects include:

• feeling sick, diarrhoea, vomiting
• heartburn, tummy pain, reduced appetite
• tiredness

Stop using it and get medical help straight away if you have:

• severe, lasting tummy pain that may spread to the back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis)
• fever, pain in the upper right tummy, yellow skin or eyes, or pale stools (gallbladder problems)
• a lump or swelling in the neck, hoarseness or trouble swallowing
• swelling of the face, lips or throat, or trouble breathing
• changes in eyesight, fast heartbeat, dizziness or fainting

Your doctor will usually advise against dulaglutide if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2 syndrome. Check with your doctor before using it if you:

• have had pancreatitis
• have diabetic eye disease (retinopathy)
• have slow stomach emptying or other serious digestive problems
• have kidney, liver or gallbladder disease
• take other diabetes medicines or any other medicines, as their doses may need changing
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding

Ask your doctor what to do if you are ill, have a fever or are under stress.

Keep pens in the fridge in the original carton to protect from light. Do not freeze. If needed, a pen can be kept at room temperature for up to 14 days. Keep out of the reach of children.

Thyroid tumours: dulaglutide caused thyroid tumours in rats. It is not known if this happens in people, but report any neck lump, hoarseness or trouble swallowing.

Surgery: tell your surgeon or dentist you use this medicine.
