Sucranic Syrup 1g Syrup

Sucralfate is used to treat duodenal ulcers (ulcers in the first part of the small intestine) and to help stop them coming back. It sticks to the ulcer and forms a protective layer that shields it from stomach acid and digestive enzymes, giving it time to heal.

It may be used along with antibiotics when an ulcer is caused by H. pylori bacteria.

Take sucralfate exactly as your doctor tells you.

• Take it on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals, at the same times each day.
• Shake the liquid well before each dose.
• Take antacids at least 30 minutes before or after sucralfate.
• Keep taking it for the full time your doctor advises; ulcers can take up to 8 weeks to heal.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due; then skip it. Do not take a double dose.

The most common side effect is:

• constipation

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• hives, rash or itching
• swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
• difficulty breathing or swallowing

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have kidney disease
• have diabetes
• have trouble swallowing, or problems with your gag or cough reflex
• are fed through a tube
• take other medicines, as sucralfate can affect how some are absorbed
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding

Keep it in its original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture, and out of the reach of children. Do not freeze the liquid.

Other medicines: sucralfate can stop some medicines being absorbed properly. Ask your pharmacist how to space your other medicines.

Kidney disease: tell your doctor if you have kidney problems before starting.
