Etifoxine hydrochloride is an anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) medicine. It is used to reduce the emotional and physical signs that come with anxiety, such as tension and restlessness.

Take it exactly as your doctor tells you. The dose is usually split into 2 or 3 times a day.

• Swallow the capsules with a little water.
• Take it for as long as your doctor prescribes.
• If you miss a dose, do not take extra next time to make up for it.
• If you take too much, contact a doctor straight away.

Side effects are uncommon. They may include:

• mild drowsiness at the start of treatment
• skin rash
• bleeding between periods in women taking the contraceptive pill

Stop taking it and get medical help straight away if you have:

• a severe skin reaction (widespread rash, blisters, peeling) or a rash with fever and swollen glands
• swelling of the face, lips or throat, hives or trouble breathing
• yellow skin or eyes, vomiting, unusual tiredness or stomach pain (possible liver problems)
• watery diarrhoea

Do not take it if you:

• are in shock
• have severe liver or kidney problems
• have myasthenia gravis
• have had a severe skin reaction or serious liver damage with etifoxine before

Check with your doctor first if you are at risk of liver problems (you may need liver blood tests before starting and after about a month), are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have lactose intolerance.

Store at or below 25°C. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Alcohol: avoid alcohol while taking it.

Driving: it can cause drowsiness, so take care when driving or using machines.

Pregnancy: it is best avoided in pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you become pregnant.

Breastfeeding: not recommended, as there is not enough information.
