Ramipace 2.5mg Tablets

Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor medicine used to:

• treat high blood pressure
• lower the risk of heart attack, stroke or death in people at high risk
• improve survival in people with heart failure after a heart attack
• help protect the kidneys in some people

It relaxes and widens blood vessels so blood flows more easily. It controls these conditions but does not cure them.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, at about the same time each day.

• It can be taken with or without food.
• Swallow capsules whole. If you cannot, ask your pharmacist whether the contents can be mixed with a little water, apple juice or apple sauce.
• Your doctor will usually start with a low dose and increase it slowly.
• Keep taking it even if you feel well. Do not stop without talking to your doctor.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless your next dose is nearly due, then skip it. Never take a double dose.

Common side effects include:

• a dry, tickly cough
• dizziness or headache
• upset stomach or vomiting
• tiredness or weakness

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, eyes, hands or feet
• difficulty breathing or swallowing, hoarseness, rash or hives
• yellow skin or eyes
• fever, sore throat or chills (signs of infection)
• light-headedness or fainting

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have ever had swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat (angioedema)
• have heart, kidney or liver disease, diabetes, lupus or scleroderma
• take, or stopped in the last 36 hours, sacubitril with valsartan
• take potassium supplements, potassium salt substitutes, aspirin or NSAID painkillers such as ibuprofen
• are on a low-salt diet, or have diarrhoea, vomiting or heavy sweating (these can make blood pressure drop too low)
• are due to have surgery

Keep in the original tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Pregnancy: do not take ramipril if you are pregnant, as it may harm the baby. Contact your doctor straight away if you become pregnant.

Breastfeeding: tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding.

Dizziness: it can make you dizzy, especially at first. Do not drive or use machines if you feel dizzy.
