Primolut-N 5mg Tablets

Norethisterone is a man-made form of the hormone progesterone (a progestogen). It is used to:

• treat endometriosis, where womb-lining tissue grows outside the womb and causes pain and heavy or irregular periods
• treat abnormal bleeding from the womb
• bring back a normal cycle when periods have stopped for some months (not due to pregnancy or menopause)

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, at about the same time each day.

• Do not change how much you take or how often without your doctor's advice.
• Do not stop taking it without talking to your doctor.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless your next dose is nearly due; then skip it. Never take a double dose.

Common side effects include:

• spotting, irregular bleeding or changes in your periods
• breast tenderness, bloating, nausea or weight change
• trouble sleeping
• acne, darker patches on the face, or hair changes

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• pain, warmth or swelling in one leg, sudden chest pain, shortness of breath or coughing up blood
• sudden weakness or numbness, slurred speech, or dizziness or fainting
• sudden vision changes or a severe migraine
• yellow skin or eyes, or sudden severe tummy pain
• low mood or depression, or signs of an allergic reaction

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have or have had blood clots, a stroke, heart attack, liver problems or breast cancer
• have unexplained vaginal bleeding
• have migraines, epilepsy, depression, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, lupus, or heart or kidney disease
• smoke
• take St John's wort or any other medicines
• are pregnant or breastfeeding

Keep in the original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Blood clots: know the signs of a clot and get help quickly if they appear. Smoking increases the risk of serious side effects.

Pregnancy: do not use it as a pregnancy test. If you think you are pregnant, call your doctor straight away.
