Polygel 2mg Gel

Polyacrylic acid, also known as carbomer, is a liquid gel that acts like natural tears. It coats the surface of the eye to keep it moist.

It is used to ease the discomfort of dry eyes.

Use it as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, or as the leaflet says.

• Wash your hands first.
• Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid and squeeze one drop into the eye, then blink to spread the gel.
• Do not let the tip of the tube touch your eye or skin, as this can hurt the eye and contaminate the gel.
• Take contact lenses out before use and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back.
• If you use other eye drops or ointments, leave at least 5 minutes between them and use this gel last.

Common side effects include:

• blurred vision for a short time after using it
• eye discomfort or irritation
• crusting on the eyelids

Less often, the eye may become red, itchy, swollen, watery or painful.

Stop using it and see a doctor if you have:

• eye pain or changes in your vision
• redness or irritation that does not go away or gets worse
• signs of an allergic reaction, such as itching, swelling or a rash around the eye

Do not use it if you are allergic to carbomer or any other ingredient in the gel.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you:

• wear soft contact lenses, because some products contain a preservative that can irritate the eye or discolour lenses
• are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a baby
• want to use it for a child under 18

Keep out of the sight and reach of children and do not store above 25°C. Throw the tube away 28 days after first opening it, and do not use it after the expiry date.

Your vision may be blurred for a short while after putting the gel in. Do not drive or use machinery until you can see clearly again.

If your dry eyes do not get better, or you have pain or vision changes, see a doctor.
