Peditral ORS 20.5g Sachet

Oral rehydration salts (ORS) replace the water and body salts lost when you have diarrhoea. The powder contains glucose (a sugar) and salts such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride and citrate, which help the gut take up water.

It is especially important for babies, young children and older people, who can become dehydrated quickly.

Use it as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, or as the pack says.

• Mix each sachet only with the exact amount of water on the pack. Too much or too little water makes the drink too weak or too strong.
• Use fresh drinking water. For babies, use water that has been boiled and cooled.
• Mix only with water, not milk, juice or fizzy drinks, and do not add sugar.
• Make it just before use. Throw away leftover drink after 1 hour, or after 24 hours if kept in the fridge.
• If you are being sick, take small sips often.
• Babies under 2 should only be given it on a doctor's advice. Keep breastfeeding as normal.

Side effects are not expected when it is made up correctly.

Stop and get medical help straight away if you have:

• a rash, swelling of the lips, face, throat or tongue, or trouble swallowing or breathing

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if:

• it is for a child under 2
• the diarrhoea has lasted more than 24 to 48 hours, or keeps coming back
• you have kidney or liver disease or diabetes
• you are on a low-salt or low-potassium diet
• you have been told you cannot tolerate some sugars
• you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Do not use it if your bowel is blocked.

Store sachets below 25°C in the original pack to protect from moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

See a doctor if symptoms get worse or do not improve within 24 to 48 hours, or if a baby or young child shows signs of dehydration.

Each sachet contains sodium (salt), which matters if you have been told to limit salt.
