Norditropin Nrdlt 5mg Injection

Somatropin is a man-made form of human growth hormone. It replaces growth hormone that the body would normally make. It is used to:

• treat poor growth caused by growth hormone deficiency and certain other conditions in children
• help some people with HIV gain weight and strength
• treat short bowel syndrome in some adults who need special nutrition

It is started and supervised by a specialist.

Inject somatropin under the skin exactly as your doctor or nurse has shown you, at about the same time on each treatment day.

• Read the instructions for your pen, cartridge or vial. Some products must be mixed before use.
• Check the liquid before each injection; do not use it if it is cloudy, has particles or is past its expiry date.
• Never share or reuse needles, pens or cartridges.
• Put used needles in a sharps (puncture-resistant) container.
• If you miss a dose, ask your doctor what to do. Do not inject a double dose.
• Keep using it even if you feel well, unless your doctor tells you to stop.

Common side effects include:

• pain, redness, swelling, itching or thickened skin where you inject
• headache
• muscle or joint pain
• cold-like symptoms or ear pain

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• severe headache with changes in vision, feeling or being sick
• new knee or hip pain, or a limp (especially in children)
• severe tummy pain that may spread to the back
• swelling, numbness or tingling in the hands, feet or legs
• snoring, breathing problems or sleep apnoea
• hives, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing
• changes in moles or skin colour

Check with your doctor before using it if you:

• have or have had cancer or a brain tumour, or radiation to the head
• have diabetes or diabetic eye disease
• have had recent major surgery, serious injury or severe breathing problems
• have sleep apnoea, curvature of the spine (scoliosis) or pancreatitis
• have adrenal, thyroid or parathyroid problems
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding

It is not used in children whose bones have stopped growing.

Store it exactly as the leaflet for your product and your healthcare provider tell you, and keep it out of the reach of children.

Regular check-ups: you will need regular appointments and tests while using somatropin.

Surgery: tell your surgeon or dentist that you use it.

Eyes and head: report persistent headaches or vision changes straight away.
