Nevanac 0.1% Drops

Nepafenac eye drops belong to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). They are used in adults to:

• prevent and relieve pain and inflammation in the eye after cataract surgery
• reduce the risk of swelling at the back of the eye (macular oedema) after cataract surgery in people with diabetes

Use the drops exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. Treatment usually starts the day before surgery and continues afterwards for as long as advised.

• Wash your hands and shake the bottle well before use.
• Pull down the lower eyelid and put the drop in the pocket. Do not let the tip touch your eye or anything else.
• Leave at least 5 minutes between these drops and any other eye drops.
• Remove soft contact lenses before use and wait 15 minutes before putting them back.
• If you miss a dose, use it when you remember unless your next dose is nearly due. Do not use a double dose.
• Do not stop without speaking to your doctor.

Uncommon side effects include inflammation of the eye surface, a feeling of something in the eye, and crusting or drooping of the eyelids. Rarely, eye pain, dryness, itching, redness, discharge, watering or blurred vision may occur.

Contact your doctor straight away if:

• your eye becomes more red or more painful while using the drops
• your vision gets worse or becomes cloudy
• you have signs of an allergic reaction, such as eyelid swelling

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you:

• are allergic to nepafenac or other NSAIDs, or have had asthma, hives or nasal swelling after aspirin or other NSAIDs
• bruise or bleed easily, or take blood thinners such as warfarin
• have another eye problem, such as an infection or dry eye, or use other eye drops, especially steroid drops
• have diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis, or have had several eye operations in a short time
• are pregnant, may become pregnant or are breastfeeding

Do not store above 30°C. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Throw the bottle away 4 weeks after first opening.

Pregnancy: it is not recommended during pregnancy unless your doctor says it is clearly needed. Women who could become pregnant should use effective contraception. It can be used while breastfeeding.

Driving: your vision may be blurred just after using the drops. Do not drive or use machines until it is clear.

Avoid strong sunlight during treatment. It is not for use in children under 18.
