Natacin Eye Drop 50mg Drops

Natamycin is an antifungal medicine. As eye drops (a suspension), it treats fungal infections of the eye, such as:

• fungal keratitis (infection of the clear front surface of the eye)
• fungal conjunctivitis
• fungal blepharitis (infection of the eyelids)

Your eye doctor will usually confirm the infection, sometimes by testing a sample from the eye, before or during treatment.

Use natamycin eye drops exactly as your doctor tells you. For eye infections they are often used very often at first, then less often as the eye improves.

• Shake the bottle well before each use.
• Wash your hands. Do not let the dropper tip touch your eye, fingers or any surface, so the drops stay clean.
• Do not wear contact lenses while you have signs of an eye infection.
• Treatment usually lasts a few weeks. Keep using the drops for as long as your doctor says, even if the eye feels better.
• Use it in the eye only. It must never be injected.
• If you miss a dose, ask your doctor or pharmacist what to do.

Side effects reported include:

• eye irritation, discomfort, redness or a gritty feeling
• watering eyes or swelling around the eye
• eye pain or changes in vision

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, swelling or difficulty breathing
• chest pain
• worsening eye pain, clouding of the eye or a big change in vision

Tell your eye doctor if the eye is not getting better after 7 to 10 days, as the infection may need a different treatment.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you:

• have had an allergic reaction to natamycin or any ingredient of the drops
• use other eye drops or ointments
• wear contact lenses
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding

Its safety and effectiveness in children have not been established, so use in children is a decision for the doctor.

Store between 2°C and 24°C, away from light and excess heat. Do not freeze. Use only if the container is undamaged, and keep it out of the reach of children.

Pregnancy: it is not known whether natamycin can harm an unborn baby, so it should be used only if clearly needed. Talk to your doctor.

Breastfeeding: it is not known whether it passes into breast milk; ask your doctor before use.

Driving: changes in vision have been reported. Do not drive or use machines unless you can see clearly.
