Lantus SoloStar 100IU/ml Injection

Insulin glargine is a long-acting insulin. It helps move sugar from the blood into your body's tissues and reduces the amount of sugar your liver makes.

It is used to control blood sugar in people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. It controls diabetes but does not cure it.

Inject it exactly as your doctor or nurse shows you, usually once a day at the same time each day.

• Inject under the skin of the upper arm, thigh or tummy. Never inject into a vein or muscle, or into lumpy, bruised or scarred skin.
• Change the spot each time within the area you use.
• Use it only if it is clear and colourless. Do not dilute it, mix it with other insulins or use it in an insulin pump.
• Never share pens, syringes or needles.
• Never use it when your blood sugar is low.
• Do not stop, switch brands or change your dose without talking to your doctor.

Common side effects include:

• redness, swelling, pain or itching where you inject
• thickened skin or small dents at injection sites
• signs of infection such as a cough or fever

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• signs of low blood sugar, such as sweating, a fast heartbeat, dizziness, confusion, blurred vision or feeling very sleepy
• a rash, hives, wheezing, or swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing or swallowing
• a fast or irregular heartbeat, muscle cramps or weakness
• sudden weight gain, swollen ankles or feet, or shortness of breath
• changes in your vision

Tell your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you:

• have heart failure, or heart, liver or kidney disease
• have low potassium, nerve damage or eye problems
• take any other medicines or supplements

Illness, stress, and changes in your diet or activity can change how much insulin you need.

Keep unopened pens and vials in the fridge and never freeze them. Once opened, or if kept out of the fridge, use within 28 days and keep away from heat and sunlight; opened pens are kept at room temperature. Keep out of the reach of children.

Low blood sugar: learn the warning signs and carry something sugary with you.

Alcohol: alcohol can raise the risk of low blood sugar. Ask your doctor about drinking safely.

Driving: low blood sugar can affect your ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.
