Exazole Tablets 30mg Tablets

Lansoprazole lowers the amount of acid your stomach makes. It is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It is used to:

• treat heartburn and acid reflux (GERD) and heal damage to the food pipe
• treat and prevent stomach and duodenal ulcers, including in people taking anti-inflammatory painkillers (NSAIDs)
• clear H. pylori infection, together with antibiotics
• treat conditions where the stomach makes too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome

Take lansoprazole exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, usually before a meal and at the same time each day.

• Swallow capsules whole. Do not chew or crush them.
• If swallowing is hard, ask your pharmacist whether the capsule can be opened and the granules mixed with soft food or juice, then swallowed straight away without chewing.
• Orally disintegrating tablets should be left to dissolve on the tongue, then swallowed.
• It may take a few days to feel the full benefit, so keep taking it even if you feel well.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due. Never take a double dose.

Common side effects include:

• headache, dizziness
• feeling sick, diarrhoea, constipation

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• swelling of the face, lips, mouth or throat, or trouble breathing or swallowing
• blistering, peeling or bleeding skin, or mouth sores with fever
• severe watery diarrhoea with stomach pain or fever that does not go away
• a fast or irregular heartbeat, muscle spasms, shaking or fits (possible low magnesium)
• changes in how much you pass urine, or blood in your urine
• a rash on the cheeks or arms that gets worse in sunlight, or new joint pain

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• are allergic to any PPI (such as omeprazole or esomeprazole)
• have liver disease, osteoporosis, or low magnesium, calcium, potassium, sodium or vitamin B12
• have lupus or another autoimmune disease
• take sucralfate, iron supplements or St John's wort
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding
• have phenylketonuria (some dissolving tablets contain aspartame)

See a doctor first if you have trouble or pain swallowing, black or bloody stools, vomiting blood, or weight loss you cannot explain.

Store at room temperature, away from heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), in the original tightly closed container and out of the reach of children.

Long-term use: taking a PPI for a year or more, or at high doses, may raise the risk of bone fractures (hip, wrist, spine) and of small stomach growths (polyps). Your doctor will check that you still need it.

Do not use it for instant relief of heartburn, as it takes time to work.
