Enzid 600mg Tablets

Linezolid is an antibiotic from the oxazolidinone group. It stops certain bacteria from growing and is used to treat some serious bacterial infections.

It does not work against viruses such as colds or flu.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, at the same times each day.

• You can take it with or without food.
• For the liquid, gently turn the bottle upside down a few times before each dose; do not shake it.
• Finish the full course even if you feel better.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due; then skip it. Never take two doses at once.
• Your doctor may arrange blood tests during treatment.

Common side effects include:

• diarrhoea, feeling or being sick, tummy pain
• headache, dizziness, a change in taste
• white patches in the mouth, or vaginal irritation
• tongue or tooth discolouration

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• severe watery or bloody diarrhoea, even weeks after finishing
• changes in your eyesight
• pain, numbness or weakness in the hands or feet
• repeated vomiting, fast breathing, confusion or unusual tiredness
• unusual bleeding or bruising
• fever, sweating, restlessness, muscle stiffness or twitching
• a rash, blisters, swelling or trouble breathing

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• take, or took in the last 2 weeks, an MAOI (such as moclobemide or selegiline)
• take antidepressants or other medicines that affect serotonin
• use cold remedies containing pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine
• have high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, seizures, or kidney or liver disease
• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• have phenylketonuria (the liquid contains aspartame)

Keep it in the original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from light, heat and moisture, and out of the reach of children. Use the liquid within 21 days.

Food and drink: avoid large amounts of tyramine-rich foods and drinks, such as aged cheese, cured or smoked meats and fish, fermented or pickled foods, yeast products, beer and red wine, as they can raise blood pressure.

Serotonin reaction: taking it with some antidepressants can cause a serious reaction (fever, agitation, stiffness). Tell your doctor about every medicine you take.

Surgery: tell your surgeon or dentist you are taking it.
