Coralan 5mg Tablets

Ivabradine is a heart medicine that slows down your heart rate. A slower heart needs less oxygen and can pump more effectively.

It is used for:

• stable angina (chest pain), to reduce the number of attacks, in adults who cannot take beta-blockers or whose angina is not fully controlled by them
• chronic heart failure in some adults, together with their usual heart failure medicines

Take it exactly as your doctor tells you, usually twice a day, morning and evening.

• Take it with meals.
• Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice.
• If you miss a dose, skip it and take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose.
• Treatment is usually long term. Do not stop taking it without talking to your doctor.

Common side effects include:

• brief flashes of brightness, halos or coloured lights in your vision, often when light changes suddenly (these usually happen in the first two months)
• a slower heartbeat
• headache, dizziness or blurred vision

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• a fast, irregular or pounding heartbeat, or a very slow heartbeat
• chest pain or breathlessness that gets worse
• dizziness, fainting or unusual tiredness
• swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing or swallowing

It is not suitable for everyone. Tell your doctor before taking it if you:

• have a slow resting heart rate, very low blood pressure, or a heart rhythm problem such as atrial fibrillation or sick sinus syndrome
• have unstable angina, a heart attack happening now, or heart failure that has recently got worse
• have a pacemaker, severe liver problems, severe kidney problems or long-term eye (retina) disease
• take antifungals such as ketoconazole or fluconazole, antibiotics such as clarithromycin, some HIV medicines, diltiazem or verapamil, St John's wort, or medicines that affect heart rhythm or lower potassium

This medicine does not need any special storage conditions. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: do not take it if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breastfeeding. If you could become pregnant, use reliable contraception.

Driving: the light flashes it can cause may affect your vision, especially when driving at night or when light changes suddenly. Be careful until you know how it affects you.
