Benzor-AM 5/40mg Tablets

Amlodipine with olmesartan medoxomil is a combination tablet for high blood pressure. It is used when blood pressure is not controlled well enough with either medicine on its own.

• Olmesartan medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker. It relaxes blood vessels.
• Amlodipine is a calcium-channel blocker. It stops blood vessels from tightening.

Together they lower blood pressure more than either alone.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, usually one tablet a day at the same time.

• Swallow the tablet whole with some water, with or without food. Do not chew it.
• Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice.
• If you miss a dose, take your normal dose the next day. Never take two doses together.
• Keep taking it even if you feel well, and do not stop unless your doctor tells you to.

Common side effects include:

• dizziness and headache
• swelling of the ankles, feet, legs, hands or arms
• tiredness

Stop taking it and get medical help straight away if you have:

• swelling of the face, mouth or throat, itching or rash
• severe dizziness or fainting (lie down first)
• yellow skin or eyes, dark pee or itching

Also contact your doctor if you get severe, long-lasting diarrhoea with weight loss, but do not stop the medicine on your own.

Do not take it if you are more than 3 months pregnant, have severe liver disease or blocked bile flow, have very low blood pressure, shock or heart valve narrowing, or have diabetes or kidney problems and take aliskiren.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have kidney, liver, heart or adrenal problems
• have high potassium, or have had severe vomiting or diarrhoea
• take ACE inhibitors, water tablets, potassium supplements or salt substitutes, lithium, NSAIDs, colesevelam, simvastatin, tacrolimus or ciclosporin

It is not recommended for people under 18.

No special storage conditions are needed. Keep out of the sight and reach of children and do not use after the expiry date.

Pregnancy: it can seriously harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor straight away if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. It is not recommended while breastfeeding.

Driving: it may make you sleepy, dizzy or sick, or give you a headache. Do not drive or use machines until these pass.

Blood tests: your doctor may check your kidneys, blood pressure and potassium regularly.
