Baclin Tablet 10mg Tablets

Baclofen is a muscle relaxant. It eases muscle spasms, cramps and tightness (spasticity) caused by problems with the brain, spine or nerves.

It may be used for people with:

• multiple sclerosis
• spinal cord injuries or disease
• cerebral palsy
• motor neurone disease

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. Your doctor may start with a low dose and raise it slowly.

• Take it at the same times each day. Taking it with food or milk can help if it makes you feel sick.
• Swallow tablets whole. Measure the liquid with the syringe or spoon provided.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless your next dose is nearly due. Never take two doses together.
• Do not stop suddenly. Your doctor will lower the dose slowly over weeks or months.

Common side effects include:

• sleepiness, tiredness or weakness
• dizziness or feeling faint
• headache, dry mouth
• feeling or being sick
• eyesight problems
• mood changes, muscle weakness or pain

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• trouble breathing
• yellow skin or whites of the eyes
• very low mood or thoughts of harming yourself
• seeing or hearing things that are not there, or fits (seizures)
• swelling of the face, tongue or throat, or an itchy raised rash (call emergency services)

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have had a reaction to baclofen before
• have liver or kidney problems
• have epilepsy, diabetes or Parkinson's disease
• have had a stroke
• have a mental health condition
• have had problems with alcohol or drugs
• take other muscle relaxants (such as tizanidine), opioid painkillers, sedatives, sleeping tablets, sedating antihistamines, lithium, amitriptyline, diltiazem or Parkinson's medicines

Keep tablets at room temperature in the original, tightly closed container, away from heat and moisture. Some baclofen liquids need to be kept in the fridge, so check the label. Keep out of the reach of children.

Stopping: stopping suddenly can cause serious withdrawal effects such as fits, fever, confusion, muscle stiffness or hallucinations.

Alcohol: it is best to avoid alcohol, as it makes sleepiness worse.

Driving: do not drive, cycle or use machines if you feel sleepy, dizzy or have eyesight problems.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: tell your doctor. It may be used in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks; the baby may need checking after birth. Ask before breastfeeding.
