Avetriptan Tablet 2.5mg Tablets

Zolmitriptan is a triptan medicine used to treat migraine attacks, with or without aura. It narrows blood vessels around the brain and blocks pain signals, easing headache, feeling sick and sensitivity to light and sound.

It treats an attack that has started. It does not prevent migraines or reduce how often you get them.

Take it as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, as soon as the migraine headache starts.

• It can be taken with or without food.
• If the migraine goes away and then comes back, you may be able to take another dose, but only after at least 2 hours and within your daily limit.
• If the first dose does not help, do not take a second dose for the same attack without asking your doctor.
• Do not use headache medicines on more than 10 days a month.

Common side effects include:

• feeling warm or cold
• sleepiness or dizziness
• dry mouth, feeling sick or heartburn
• sweating

Get emergency help straight away if you have:

• chest pain or tightness, or a fast or irregular heartbeat
• slurred speech, or weakness or numbness in an arm or leg
• severe stomach pain or bloody diarrhoea
• pale or blue fingers or toes
• swelling of the face, lips or throat, or trouble breathing

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• have heart disease, angina, a past heart attack, stroke or circulation problems
• have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoke or are overweight
• have liver or kidney disease
• have taken another triptan or an ergotamine medicine in the last 24 hours
• take, or recently took, an MAO inhibitor or antidepressants
• are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding

Keep it in its original, tightly closed container at room temperature, away from light, heat and moisture (not in the bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Drowsiness: do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.

Overuse: using it too often can make headaches more frequent or worse. Tell your doctor if you need it for more than 3 headaches a month.
