Amaryl 2mg Tablets

Glimepiride is used with diet and exercise, and sometimes other medicines, to treat type 2 diabetes. It helps the pancreas release insulin and helps the body use insulin better.

It only works if your body still makes some insulin, so it is not used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. It controls blood sugar but does not cure diabetes.

Take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.

• It is usually taken once a day with breakfast or your first main meal, at about the same time each day.
• Keep taking it even if you feel well. Do not change your dose or stop without speaking to your doctor.
• Check your blood sugar as advised and tell your doctor about readings that are higher or lower than usual.
• Ask your doctor what to do if you become ill, get an infection or fever, or are under unusual stress.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next is nearly due. Never take a double dose.

Common side effects include:

• dizziness
• feeling sick
• low blood sugar: learn the signs and keep something sugary with you

Get medical help straight away if you have:

• yellow skin or eyes, pale poo, dark pee or pain in the upper right tummy
• unusual bruising or bleeding
• fever or a sore throat
• fits or loss of consciousness from very low blood sugar

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

• are allergic to glimepiride or any other medicine
• have G6PD deficiency, an inherited blood condition
• have heart, kidney or liver disease
• have thyroid, adrenal or pituitary gland problems
• are 65 or older
• are having surgery or dental treatment

Aspirin and other painkillers such as ibuprofen and naproxen can interact with it. Tell your pharmacist about everything you take.

Store at room temperature in the original, tightly closed container, away from heat and moisture (not in a bathroom), and out of the reach of children.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Call your doctor if you become pregnant while taking it.

Alcohol: ask your doctor about drinking alcohol, as it can make side effects worse.

Sunlight: it may make your skin more sensitive to the sun; use sunscreen and protective clothing.
